KGHM ZANAM at #TheElectricMine2026
When the world goes underground… with the energy of the future
Just a few years ago, electrification in mining was, for many, merely a direction for future development. Today, it is becoming a concrete standard around which the world’s largest mining companies are building their strategies. The industry is no longer asking “if,” but “how quickly” and “on what scale” to implement zero-emission solutions underground.
This was confirmed at #TheElectricMine2026 – one of the most important events dedicated to the energy transition of the mining sector. More than 750 delegates from every continent, over 95 experts, and in-depth discussions on actual ways to decarbonise underground operations — from battery-powered work machines and charging infrastructure to grid development and energy management for entire mines.
A delegation from KGHM ZANAM S.A. also attended the event, namely Krzysztof Okrent – Director of the R&D Department, and Daniel Bajus – Deputy Chief Engineer for R&D Project Management. For the company, participation in such conferences is not only about observing global trends, but above all about actively taking part in changes that are already redefining modern mining.
Underground, virtually everything is changing now. Mines expect not only high performance, but also lower noise levels, reduced exhaust emissions, improved working conditions for operators, and greater energy efficiency. Electrification addresses all of these needs at once, which is why an increasing number of manufacturers and mine operators see it as a natural path forward.
That is precisely why #KGHMZANAM is consistently developing solutions based on battery-powered drives. Examples include #ZANPER vehicles and the #HT24E haulage truck – electric machines designed for everyday work in demanding underground conditions. At the same time, further concepts for electric working machines are being developed, intended to combine the performance characteristic of heavy industry with an ever lower carbon footprint.
Industry events such as The Electric Mine show that the direction is clearly defined: modern mining will become increasingly electric, automated and energy-efficient.
And everything seems to indicate that the world really isn’t afraid of it anymore.
